Match Report
Villa will feel extremely aggrieved to have not come away from this game with at least a draw. It is a fixture that always produces an well fought match and this was no exception. From front to back, every player put in a fantastic effort and other than a lapse in concentration in the first half, which resulted in Bingham's first goal, Kinoulton were arguably the better team.
It was great to see Steve Harris return for his first game of the season and his man of the match performance alongside the ever reliable Wol restricted Bingham to only a handful of chances throughout the whole game. Ivan dominated the defensive penalty area claiming any crosses that were thrown at him with ease, whilst Doug and Colin kept Bingham quiet down the flanks, an area where they are usually quite handy.
In the middle Jim and Simon worked hard against their 5 central midfielders with Tony providing much needed support. Skinner had perhaps his best game to date causing all sorts of problems for Bingham's knob head right back who was once again determined to try and put one of Villa's team in hospital. A cynical challenge on Jim and a nasty elbow on Simon didn't have the desired effect though. Up front Dom worked hard as usual in the first half with Tommo continuing his efforts in the second.
With the score at 1-0 at half time, there was still plenty to play for. For half an hour, we continued to push and created some half chances that on some other days might have gone in. Eventually an equalizer came in bizarre fashion. A clear defensive back pass resulted in the referee awarding a direct free kick inside the Bingham area. Everyone on the pitch, other than the referee, seemed to appreciate that it should have been indirect, but having clarified the situation several times, Tommo drove a thunderbolt of a free kick through the 9 man wall into the top of the net. 1-1.
Not content with a draw, Villa continued to push but just couldn't find the end product. Two counter attacks in the last 10 minutes saw Bingham bag another 2 goals with the final score flattering them at 3-1.
