Match Report
Despite only having eleven players on the day, Villa were still able a relatively strong side against a Wollaton side that they had put 9 goals past on the opening day of the season. The onslaught looked set to continue when the much missed Evan found himself unmarked at the far post following a well delivered corner. With the ball seemingly heading out of play to safety, Evan somehow managed to completely change his direction of travel and produce a spectacular diving header into the top corner to make the score 1-0 after only a few minutes. Sadly, Kinoulton were defending at the time and Evan had put the ball into his own net. 1-0 to Wollaton.
Ultimately, Evan was to prove Wollaton's most effective attacking option. On one of the hottest days of the year, Wollaton did field a tricky European winger complete with leggings, thermal top and a snood. John Ponytail was not intimidated by this however and ensured his threat was quickly neutralised.
Villa pretty much dominated proceedings and quickly regained the lead with goals from Byron and Jim and at half time they were well in control despite only a 2-1 lead. Tony added a third with a great header from a corner which was the cherry on the cake for his man of the match performance.
When Paul Skinner received a nasty knock midway through the second half, the game petered out into a relatively dull affair. With no subs to replace him, Villa had to effectively play with 10 men and struggled to create chances. They remained unthreatened at the back, however, with the back four cancelling out everything Wollaton had to offer.
Final score Villa 3, Wollaton 1.
